 Plan 2 - Change of song - Coursework

I found an original video for Carmen - Lana del Rey, so I need to change the song. Lana's songs have similar themes so I wouldn't need to change the narrative completely, and i could still apply my analysis of the Lolita references in her songs. 

Songs that have similar concepts to Carmen and have no original music video are: Art Deco and Serial Killer.

I can still apply my analysis of the Lolita references; I also had researched The Love Witch, Girl Interrupted and Basic Instinct, and Malena, so I can still use that as well.

Lyrics analysis:

Wish I may, wish I might? - a children's song, evoking innocence/naivety - Lolita reference
Find my one true love tonight  - troubled by the need of fulfilment and a significant other - chase
Do you think that he could be you? - desperation, sociopathic tendencies

If I pray really tight  - relates to the nursery Rhyme Star Bright Star Light - she's praying like a child before bed; compares her deep desires to prayers
Get into a fake bar fight  - a man that fights for glory
While I'm walking down the avenue

I know that what I do isn't right - describes the cognitive dissonance she feels before indulging in these acts; knows she's acting impulsively
I can't stop what I love to do - being desired and going in another relationship after a breakup is a quick fix for her

Watching them fall one by one they fight - leading on other men and have them fighting for her

Baby, I'm a sociopath - Her desire to exercise control over men is characteristic of having a personality disorder, which manifests itself in extreme antisocial behavior and a lack of conscience. Antisocial personality disorder is a mental health condition in which a person has a long-term pattern of manipulating, exploiting, or violating the rights of others. This behaviour is often criminal.

You can see me drinking cherry cola - drinks cola instead of alcohol cuz she's a recovered alcoholic

(You send me right to heaven) Another reference to how these relationships are a temporary bliss for Lana. Just like someone who’s just been killed, she is sent right to Heaven.

Do it for the thrill of the rush - Lana compares herself to a sociopath throughout this song. Sociopaths crave the rush of dopamine they receive by manipulating and deceiving others

My black fire's burning bright - Fire symbolizes destruction, and the colour black can be thought of as sinister; she is a destructive sinister woman in need of love. Juxtaposition: Black symbolizes dark and bright symbolizes light.

Dancing in the dark and I shine - She is the dark side, disguised as the light side OR “ the devil disguised as an angel”.

I could be your ingenue - Juxtaposition: she can be his ingenue (another reference to paedophilia – there are many in Lana Del Rey’s music – artless innocent young girl who can be molded to whatever he wants) as well as his muse and inspiration.

The character is sociopathic, deceitful and attractive; her charming persona makes men fall for her; The way she refers to them as toys - inanimate objects - objectifies them and reverses the roles on men and women; In a way, it makes me think of Adam and Eve, as she was innocent and naïve before she ate the apple; the character also could be killing bad men as she acts in a child-like manner, upholding the paedophilic standards of beauty; she obviously uses the short-term relationships as a coping mechanism.

I will relate the narrative of the video to Snow White and the Evil Queen but instead of The EQ being the villain it will be SW.
